Look after your students with safeguarding training
21 August 2019

Safeguarding regulation in the UK makes it one of the safest places to send students to study. It is essential professionals working in ELT know how to support the students that come into our care, especially with large numbers of short-term stays.

To make sure your centre is up-to-date with British Council criteria and your students have the best, safest experience, English UK provides ELT-specific safeguarding training. The English language teaching sector has unique needs, so we only work with trainers who are experts in both safeguarding and the UK ELT industry.

We are pleased to announce our 2019/20 safeguarding training is sponsored by Endsleigh Insurance Services. Their support means we can offer great value training to our members.

Toby Harris, international student insurance specialist at Endsleigh, said: "We are extremely proud to be working in partnership with English UK, offering our support to their safeguarding training across the UK."

Endsleigh was originally established by the National Union of Students (NUS) and has operated in the education sector for over 50 years.

Toby added: "The 'welfare of the child is paramount' became a legal principle under the 1989 Children Act and is very much a primary focus for both ELT education providers and for Endsleigh. We value the importance of a 'safer school' ethos for students studying in the UK, wanting to ensure each student is able to achieve the best experience possible during their time travelling abroad."

English UK endeavours to help ELT centres maintain high levels of safeguarding training, both to fulfil criteria and ensure student safety. Through the training, student support staff will learn about managing concerns, student welfare, child protection, how to write a safeguarding policy and much more. Expert sessions will take place in London, York, Exeter, Bristol, Manchester, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Edinburgh or Glasgow to create the best learning environment for your students.

Toby said: "As an advocate for student safety, it's really encouraging to see how our travel insurance policies have a positive impact in providing comprehensive protection to overseas students, as well as peace of mind to many ELT organisations."
