Business rates relief campaign update
During the latter half of June momentum has been building in our business rates relief campaign. We thank all members who continue to support our ongoing work in this area.
On Wednesday 23 June, English UK members and staff were joined by expert witnesses from the tourism industry for the All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Students meeting, attended by MPs and peers as well as journalists and industry insiders.
On the same day, a delegation from English UK South together with their local MP Conor Burns met with BEIS Minister Paul Scully.
Immediately after this meeting, BEIS Minister Paul Scully met with DIT Minister Graham Stuart and DfE Minister Michelle Donelan, who were advocating on behalf of UK ELT. The outcome of this meeting is that Minister Scully will write to the Treasury (with the support of Ministers Stuart and Donelan) to ask for business rates relief for language schools.
On Friday 25 June, a letter on this issue signed by 36 Conservative MPs was sent to Downing Street by Andrew Lewer MP.
We will keep you up-to-date with the next steps in the campaign. In the meantime, please follow us on social media and share and amplify our posts on this critical issue.
