There are dozens of Legal English courses designed especially for those working in the legal profession, available at English UK member centres across the country.
Some courses are for law students or recently qualified lawyers, while others are aimed at experienced legal professionals, from lawyers to paralegals, legal secretaries and translators.
These courses immerse students in legal English language and teach them how to handle professional activities like contract writing and negotiation, in English. One of the advantages of studying legal English in the UK is the chance to visit UK law firms and legal institutions, or meet lawyers practicing in the UK.
TOLES (Test of Legal English) exams are a series of internationally recognised legal English exams which are offered by several English UK members. There are 3 TOLES exams - Foundation, Higher and Advanced. Find out more about TOLES.
We spoke to one of our members, The London School of English, about the benefits of studying legal English in the UK:
"Students can immerse themselves in the British legal system with visits to major legal courts. This immersion continues in class with our intensive lessons being taught by highly qualified teachers, some of whom come from a legal backgrounds, and students have weekly lectures from specially invited legal experts who offer practical advice in order to develop their legal careers."
"By the end of our course, students can expect to communicate more accurately, confidently and spontaneously in a legal context, write more effective legal texts, participate more confidently in meetings and negotiations and have improved your networking skills.
At The London School of English we specialise in Legal English for young lawyers with our Legal English 20-30, which teaches complex legal skills to young lawyers who want to develop their oral and written efficiency within the workplace".
