English UK ensures students continue courses after sudden school closure
Thirteen students are continuing their studies in Brighton and Hove after we activated Accreditation UK's Student Emergency Support (SES) scheme.
The students were advised to contact English UK when Interactive English School closed suddenly on Saturday 7 September.
Within a couple of days ten students already in the UK plus three who were due to start had been offered places in three other English UK member centres in the city, at no additional cost. SES has also provided emergency accommodation support for those students already in the UK.
Support and reassurance
Huan Japes, our joint acting chief executive, said: "This was an unexpected closure at a weekend and we did our best to support and reassure the students as soon as we were alerted to the situation. Once we had the students' details, we got in touch with all of them and managed to place them in suitable courses very quickly.
Thank you to other Brighton schools
"We are incredibly grateful to Bayswater, BLS and Loxdale for their help and believe the students are settling in well."
Most of the students were from Saudi Arabia or Italy and had between a week and 21 weeks remaining of their courses.
About Student Emergency Support
Sudden closures of Accreditation UK English language centres are very rare, but the SES is there to limit the impact on any students involved. We believe this type of ELT student support is unique to the UK.
The scheme is part of Accreditation UK, administered by English UK, and ensures students affected by an unplanned school closure can complete their courses without additional costs at another Accreditation UK centre. In some cases, it may also help students who have paid in full for a course which has not yet begun.
