English is GREAT: Speak to the World – an update
1 April 2016

English is GREAT: Speak to the World is an extensive multi-channel campaign, which is partly funded by the GREAT UK Challenge Fund and is English UK's largest and most successful to date. It has been running in Brazil for the last six months and has included travelling classrooms, a video scholarship competition and supporting social media campaign.

Our winners in the UK

Our Brazilian video scholarship competition winners, Leticia, Laio, Karol, Guilherme and Henrique, travelled to the UK in January/February 2016. They were hosted by members of English UK London, South West, Wales, Northern Ireland and North. Our five winners recorded their experiences in photos and videos, which we shared via Facebook and Instagram using the hastag #EnglishisGREAT

A professional video production company visited each of our winners during their stay in the UK. We're currently producing a video combining professional footage with the winners' own 'point-of-view' self-shot footage. This will be ready by mid-April and will be promoted widely across the communication channels of English UK, the British Council and BMI Media (our media partner in Brazil).

Our winners represent us in Brazil

At the end of their two-week scholarships, our five winners returned to Brazil buzzing with memories of their time studying English in the UK.

Each of them joined us on our English is GREAT stand at BMI Media's Salão do Estudante fairs in late February and March 2016 in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Salvador and Belo Horizonte. They spoke with visitors to the stand, led seminars on what it's like to study English in the UK and inspired prospective Brazilian students. Over 35,500 visitors attended the Salão do Estudante fairs across the five cities, and 500+ listened to our winners' motivating stories during the seminars.

Our UK competition winners

We ran a UK English is GREAT video competition alongside our campaign in Brazil.

We're now delighted to announce our three winners:

These three centres will receive a GoPro camera and their videos will be featured on our English is GREAT Facebook page in Brazil in boosted posts.

Evaluating the campaign

We're working with market research company StudentMarketing to effectively evaluate the impact of the English is GREAT: Speak to the World campaign. We'll be carrying out research, including student surveys in Brazil, over the next six months.
