UK ELT market intelligence
We provide members with in-depth analysis of the UK ELT industry's source markets, helping them make informed business decisions based on rigorous data.
English UK annual student statistics
Our annual student statistics report offers a comprehensive, retrospective view of the full year, providing a complete sector-wide picture, but without the same in-year tracking or benchmarking depth as QUIC.
In addition to providing a comprehensive overview of student data (student numbers and student weeks) across the UK ELT sector, it also highlights differences between state and private-sector performance, regional and city-level trends, and developments in part-time and online provision.
All English UK member centres submit their student data each year, and we publish our annual student statistics report each May.
In addition to the main report on UK student data, we publish a supplement giving an overview of the UK in the global ELT context. The global report is published after all eight major English-language teaching destinations release their annual student statistics, usually in September.

Quarterly student statistics (via QUIC)
Quarterly Intelligence Cohort (QUIC) is our quarterly student statistics scheme that provides timely, in-year insight into trends across the UK ELT sector and enables contributing centres to monitor change and benchmark performance.
Data is collected each quarter, offering more frequent and granular insight than the annual report, with analysis by sector, source market, age group, course type and booking behaviour.
Participation is open to English UK members on an opt-in basis. Outputs are structured in two distinct tiers:
- QUIC snapshot (public): headline UK-wide trends and direction of travel. It provides a concise summary of key patterns, but only a small proportion of the insight generated through QUIC
- Participant-only outputs: full reports, datasets and webinars that provide detailed, granular analysis. These tools enable contributing member centres to benchmark performance against peers, explore variation across markets and segments, and extract insights tailored to their own organisations.

UK ELT sector impact survey: War in the Middle East
From April 2026 onwards, we are running a series of planned monthly surveys to gather member centres' perceptions of the impact of the war in the Middle East on their businesses.
The survey findings help English UK and its members understand shared sentiment across the sector.

Report on UK ELT student accommodation shortages in 2023
[login required]
The report, compiled from responses from 91 English UK member centres, quantifies the sector's accommodation offer. It accurately depicts shortages and their effects on the industry in 2023. These shortages impacted the centres' ability to grow their enrolment numbers and match their students' preferences. Respondents also suggest initiatives that could help improve the situation.

QUIC: online market for UK ELT 2021
[login required]
This report marks the industry's first attempt to document the UK's online English language course offerings. English UK commissioned BONARD to undertake a supplementary survey of its members who participated in the quarterly student statistics scheme QUIC in 2021.
The data collected provides insight into how much this type of product development was a result of the pandemic (i.e. 'emergency remote teaching') and what part of the offer is 'standalone'. (Standalone online English language courses are not customarily declared in student statistics requested by English UK.)
