  • English UK Accommodation Survey

    This survey asks English UK members for their views on aspects of accommodation provision for international students and particularly for those aged under 18. The survey includes short sections on criminal records checks, private fostering, homestay provision and guardianship and may help to influence future English UK policy in terms of the development of the Accreditation UK Scheme and our relations with other external agencies.

  • New British Council Seminar: ELT and online video
    23 September 2010

    The founder of TEFL clips, Jamie Keddie, will be leading a session on online video at the British Council in Spring Gardens on Tuesday, 19 October 2010. The session will last from 18:30 to 20:30.

    This series of seminars encourages debate on areas of contemporary interest in the field of English language teaching and learning. Informal networking events are combined with more formal workshops and presentations. Previous sessions include stimulating seminars given by Mario Rinvolucri, Michael Swan, Catherine Walter, and Jeremy Harmer & Steve Bingham, highlights of which are available here.

  • English UK North Academic Conference: too good to miss!

    Members in the north of England have just two more weeks to book if they don't want to miss this year's Academic Conference. Well done to English UK North for assembling a fantastic line up of big hitting speakers including: Seligson, Harmer, McCarthy, Carrier and Crystal.

    The event will be held on Saturday, 9 October at York St John University and is supported by Cambridge ESOL. Remember that Jeremy Harmer will also be headlining the English UK National Teachers' Conference on 13 November in London.

  • BELTE is back; free conference for teachers in Brighton

    Following a highly successful launch in 2009, the Brighton English Language Training Event (BELTE) is back for a second year.

    This year's event will be held on 23rd October 2010 at the Brighton Study Centre in Brighton. The event will be opened by Geoff Wells, Mayor of Brighton and Hove, with contributions from Mark Rendell, Deputy Chief Executive of English UK, and Sarah Brooker, Director of English Programmes at Bellerbys College.

  • English UK's partner agency scheme gets off to a flying start

    More than 90 agents attended a seminar launching the new English UK Partner Agency Scheme in London.

    The scheme is a new initiative to recognise study abroad agencies and educational consultancies which are successfully promoting the UK as an English language teaching destination.

  • Harmer to open English UK Teachers' Conference

    English UK is delighted to announce that Jeremy Harmer will be delivering this year's opening plenary session at the English UK Teachers' Conference on Saturday 13th November 2010.

    Jeremy's talk is entitled, 'What do Teachers do Next?' The talk will explore how teachers can continue to maintain their enthusiasm and grow as their careers develop. Jeremy replaces Maurice Claypole who has sadly had to withdraw from this year's event but we are hoping that Maurice will speak at the 2011 event instead.

    StudyWorld London marks one of its biggest events with industry launches and innovations

    A partnership scheme for agents and the expansion of English UK's overseas fairs were launched at StudyWorld London last week - along with a stunning new format for the event's guide. The 41st StudyWorld was one of the biggest ever, with 400 agents from 62 different countries attending the event, meeting over 300 educators.

  • Bookings Now Open - Student Experience Conference 2010

    Bookings are now open for the 2010 Student Experience Conference taking place on Thursday 21st October at EThames Graduate School in London.

    This national event focuses on improving the student experience for international students, an issue identified as a key target by education policy makers that formed an integral part of the second stage of the Prime Minister's Initiative. The full day of interactive plenary and elective sessions is aimed at exploring ways that schools and colleges can improve the international student's journey throughout their time in the UK.

  • Most overseas students return home after study in UK, report shows

    Overseas students are more likely to go home at the end of their visa than most other groups, Home Office research proves.

    The report 'The Migrant Journey' was written to inform the Coalition's review of UK immigration, and was cited by immigration minister Damian Green in a widely-previewed speech tonight.
