We and tourism industry stakeholders are campaigning against the government's plans to fund public sector pay increases by hiking fees paid by international students, tourists and workers.

Many English UK members had the pleasure of meeting Inna Soldatenko at our members' conference in May 2023. Inna was an associate professor of rheumatology in Kharkov before she, her parents and her school-aged daughters left Ukraine because of the war last year.

The Home Office has announced changes to the student visa route which will mean that postgraduate students on non-research courses can no longer bring dependents with them to the UK. 

Although this will not impact ELT students studying at our member centres, we are concerned that any curbs on the rights of international students in the UK have the potential to damage our attractiveness as a destination in an already challenging global international education market.
